Just came across this somewhat disturbing piece in Commonweal
The calcifying of the Catholic Church around the abortion side of their pro-life stance is not new. As is their relative silence, in the US, on the death penalty. But denying communion for Catholics who support Democratic candidates seems to be using communion as a political weapon. There is a real tax liability, at minimum, for the Church, if true.

Greetings! Saw your post in Google Blogsearch and came to read.

Um, Catholics are anything but silent on the death penalty. Most of the protestors at executions are Catholics, just as most abortion protestors are Catholics.
>"denying communion for Catholics who support Democratic candidates seems to be using communion as a political weapon."
Nope. Denial of the Eucharist is Church discipline directed at the spiritual development of the individual. No one is being denied the Eucharist for supporting Democrats. They are being told to abstain from the Eucharist for supporting pro-abortion politicians of any political party.

Personaly, I'd support my parish paying income taxes on colections and taking this distractor off the table completely.
God bless...
