The Zombie Party

How to Marginalize a National Party, Part I: Keep insisting Obama is not a citizen, to loud applause.

Republicans have enjoyed very strong party cohension for many years--it is a hallmark of the GOP. But right now it is binding up a zombie, with yahoos as the mouthpieces for a once-great national party. Until the GOP can get back on its feet (with something more than being against everything Obama proposes), we're stuck with this sideshow from the Right.

How to we solve problems?

Good blog post by Andrew Sullivan about the stimulus and how we approach problems Megan's quote to open the post really nails it, and follows up on some other recent posts by Andrew along the same theme. The GOP seems hellbent on solving the wrong problem.

Partisan religious hack getting called on it.

P O'Neill with a refreshing piece, telling it like it is.

Unfortunately it will get worse, much worse, for the Catholic Church before it gets better.

Careful what you write...

Apparently you can't go to a writer's festival in Dubai if you have a character who is gay.

I think a writer of Atwood's stature pulling out will hurt them. Image is everything in the Middle East, and the UAE has been presenting themselves as very moderate.

Salman Rushdie named one of New York's "hottest bachelor"

I have to admit to knowing nothing, really, about Page Six, but the fact that they named Rushdie as one of New York's "hottest bachelor" makes me think that there must be, like, 50 single guys in New York anymore. Maybe they are confused by the fact that he had a hot wife.

Go at it, ladies:

When NBA stats fall short

Michael Lewis (Moneyball) tracks Battier against Kobe

Limbaugh still rooting for failure

Without anything to add to the discourse, the Right has been reduced to hoping that the economy collapses under the Obama Administration.

Can a switch to Gallons per Mile make a difference?

Sure, it is measuring the same thing. But since we think of MPG as a measure of efficiency, a better measuring tool might bring that out.

Why is it when I have so little time I continue to run across these time-wasting, tasty, web sites like Pantagraph.com?

Second Obama appointee with tax problems

Can't blame this one on Obama, however. Daschle hid his tax problem during the vetting process.

Typically I'd say the tax problem is no big deal. But the hiding it from the Obama team is a big deal. If he were hiding it from those on his side, who is to say he won't do the same (or worse) to his perceived political opponents?

Make an example of him and cut him loose.
